The history of the church is to be traced back to September 2 , 1706, when the Duke of Savoy Vittorio Amedeo II and the Prince of Carignano Eugene of Savoy went up the hill to observe Turin besieged by the French and Spanish . Vittorio Amedeo , kneeling before an old pylon, swore that , if victorious , he would build a monument to Madonna.E it was so from dawn until the wee hours of the afternoon of September 7 clashed in the fields at Lucento and Our Lady of country French and Piedmontese armies , and the victory went to the latter 's entry in the sumptuous basilica portico supported by eight massive Corinthian columns. At the end of the battle, even before the end of the ongoing war against Louis XIV ( Spanish Succession War ) , Victor Amadeus , later crowned King of Sicily , he dismissed the vote and entrusted the design of the building to Filippo Juvarra ( 1711 ) . The building of the future basilica began July 20, 1717 , and lasted for fourteen years. The role of impresario was entrusted to Pietro Filippo Somazzi plasterer , who , as well as a part of the decorations in stucco, was also in charge of some masonry .

The park is part of a tem of hills, whose morphological variety and location halfway between the Alps and the sea mean that the floristic heritage is rich and interesting, with microthermic species of alpine origin (beech, Scots pine, rowan mountain bilberry), alternating with species of the Mediterranean environment (ash, sorb, holly, burning bush). The forest stands are the most common deciduous forests dominated by oak and chestnut, until a few decades ago widely grown for wood and for the fruit. Close to the Road Panoramic Hills are large nuclei of exotic plants, especially conifers, introduced on several occasions over the past few decades with the purpose of reforestation and ornamental. In cultivated and abandoned vineyards, but also inside of the deciduous forest, black locust is ed with force, and its presence tends to displace native species hills. The marginal zone of the park is characterized by the appearance of areas of intensive cultivation, while the landscape is dominated by the monumental complex of the Basilica of Superga, a masterpiece of Baroque architecture of Filippo Juvarra. The fauna is characteristic of the Turin Hills and Bosco del Vaj. The distinctive scent is unique and makes it wet dream, the subject of madness and passion for all gourmets. Hard to describe in words the scent that this nugget releases: the aromatic range has notes that can remember the garlic, mushroom, honey. There are many species of truffles, but the white truffle be found in the Langhe and Monferrato and a few other Italian areas, is the most valuable species and one that can reach the size. There is hardly a way to pay for water as expensive as when you buy a truffle: it normally contains 80%. In the mineral elements prevails potassium, followed by calcium, sodium, magnesium, iron, zinc and copper. The value of the truffle is not in your food intake, but in its ability to produce enormous pleasure in the viewer. In this feature has to be attributed to the large difference between the market price of white truffles and other species that from the point of view of the chemical composition are very similar. The area of production of Tuber Magnum Pico in Piedmont is especially concentrated in the Langhe, Monferrato and Roero, although there have been discoveries in the Alessandria area and also on the Turin hills. The Egyptian pharaohs served him in their sumptuous banquets and the Sumerians ate them regularly. It was known in ancient Arabia, the Babylonian Empire and Persia Alexander the Great. Its origin in the past, was attributed to several causes: the organic decomposition heat of the mud for spontaneous germination of lightning impact with the ground. It 'was even considered part of the mineral kingdom. The existence of the truffle has always been known, but it was not until the sixteenth century that it was recognized as a fungus. At the end of the eighteenth century, scientists studying the prestigious tuber magnatum whose scientific name is due to the medical Piedmont Vittorio Pico. The quality of the product was also known at the court of Piedmont and Count Camillo Benso di Cavour used the truffle diplomatic means. Only in 1967, thanks to the research of the Center for Study of Mycology of the land, CNR, Turin, it was demonstrated experimentally the relationship mycorrhizal plant - truffles. White Truffle Meanwhile, in 1929 came the most important event dedicated to this amazing product and wet dream and because of excitement and madness of gourmets: the National Fair of Alba. To promote this product in the world in 1949, Giacomo Morra decided to use the precious tuber as an ambassador in the world of Langa and Roero, sending every year the best specimen to an illustrious political, sports and entertainment. Since that year, the most beautiful pieces were donated to the likes of Rita Hayworth, Harry Truman and Sophia Loren. In 1996, founded the National Center Truffle Studies, an institution unique in the world specializing in the research and dissemination of the culture of the truffle. Municipalities are also central in the Barolo La Morra, Monforte, Serralunga d'Alba (with the military castle that stands in the hills), Castiglion Falletto (the round tower is part of a manor house still privately owned), Novello, Grinzane Cavour . Verduno, Diano d'Alba, Cherasco and Roddi (with the castle under renovation) are only concerned with portions of their territories. Thanks to the perseverance of Count Camillo Benso di Cavour and Julia Colbert Falletti last Marchioness of Barolo, began to be produced in the mid-nineteenth century, an exceptionally rich and harmonious wine, destined to become the ambassador of Piedmont in the courts of Savoy from all over Europe. Together with Barbaresco has traveled all the moments of exploitation of the twentieth century, starting with the association 'Pro-Barolo' until the founding of the Association then obtaining the DOC and DOCG until the start of the Plan controls for the Certification required by the European Union in 2005. The last major work on behalf of Barolo was the definition and formalization of the Disciplinary additional geographical occurred in 2009, as well as Barbaresco had happened a couple of years ago. The principle is already set out and still does not involve a 'reading' of the prestige of the 'Cru' (left to other times), but usually the many place names used on the label. With the crucial help of the municipalities, the Consortium has exceeded many situations of uncertainty and litigation by placing a cornerstone for future developments. To make important Barolo was and is the structure that expresses a complex bouquet and wrapping, which can develop over time without losing its charming characteristics. From the close link between the intrinsic characteristics of the wine and the taste of nobility of the nineteenth century was born the saying 'the king of wines, wine of kings'. The color is garnet full and intense, fruity and spicy scent at the same time; the nose, the mouth is reminiscent of red fruit, cherry liqueur and jam, but also gives hints of rose and violet, cinnamon, pepper, nutmeg, vanilla and sometimes licorice, cocoa, tobacco and leather. Must age at least three years, one and a half in oak, and only five can boast the 'reserve'. As with Barbaresco we find more traditional and others more international with a different use of the small wood. Currently the differences tend to fade with productions that revolve around a simple balance. The slight differences are however wines Barolo a concert of voices at the highest level. Already a treat after 4-6 years comes to a head after 10 years of aging and is good even after 20 or more years. Obviously it depends on the year, which can be perfect but unfortunate as the famous 1977 when it was decided not to produce Barolo and 2002, when the rains and hailstorms put a strain on the experience of winemakers. To taste Barolo in his country there are many possibilities; the 'Strada del Barolo' touches different manufacturers but there are also shops Municipal Serralunga, Diano d'Alba, Castiglione Falletto the City Winery in La Morra, Enoteca at Grinzane Cavour (which offers a view of the central area) and the Enoteca Barolo which is taking off a wine museum of great value. Other items, including private, are located in all the municipalities is growing and the willingness of companies to welcome visitors. This is why you created the service Piemonte On Wine which we refer to in the relevant section of the Local Networks.

Produced in the Piedmont region, Brachetto d'Acqui is a wine with an unmistakable bead, smell and taste: crisp and aromatic, is well suited to all social occasions and linked to good food. His story is very old and this great wine heritage, combined with the narrowness of the production area, make Brachetto d'Acqui really represents excellence in the panorama of Italian wines. We find, therefore, its origin and its inimitable features. According to legend, already in Roman times in the area of Acqui produced a wine believed to be an aphrodisiac. The name of the small village pays tribute to the renaissance statesman who was mayor of Grinzane for seventeen years. Appointed in May 1832, twenty-two, retained that position until February 1849. Upon his death the castle passed to the beloved niece Josephine, who married Count Carlo Alfieri Support. The last descendant of this family, Marquise Adele Alfieri, he left the castle to the town of Alba, which was Grinzane fraction. The municipality is divided into two centers, and Gallo Grinzane Cavour. Gallo is home to numerous craft and industrial activities (including Nougat Sebaste and the World), while the center of the country consists of Grinzane Cavour, with its few houses, narrow around the austere silhouette of the castle. Built in the first half of the thirteenth century, the castle has undergone some changes in architectural character. The present appearance is the result of restoration work begun in 1961 on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Italian state. The imposing brick building has a trapezoid, with four bodies to the small irregularly arranged around the main courtyard. In the sixteenth century it was enlarged with the addition of two picturesque cylindrical turrets; the same period, the Hall of Masks, a coffered ceiling with painted tablets 157 on the occasion of the marriage of Petrine Falletti, bearing depictions of coats of arms, animals, portraits and allegories.

PIEMONTE

Piedmont is in the north-west of Italy and borders Switzerland and France. True to the meaning of its name (foot of the mountain), Piedmont is a land of mountains. It is surrounded on three sides by the Alps, with the highest peaks and largest glaciers in Italy. Monviso, the Piedmont side of Mount Rosa and the other spectacular mountains in the region, create incredibly beautiful landscapes; there are many ski resorts as well, such as Via Lattea and Sestriere, which welcome winter sports enthusiasts with their state of the art facilities. The Alps form the background for great picturesque valleys, for example, the Val di Susa, Valsesia and Val d'Ossola. The hilly landscape of the Langhe and Monferrato is different, but still beautiful: a succession of cultivated hills and vineyards, dotted with small towns and castles. Expanses of water and rice-fields, long rows of poplars and old farmhouses make up the typical scenery of the plains around Novara and Vercelli. Lake Maggiore is the most sought-after tourist resort, with Stresa and the Borromean Islands, charming landscapes with ancient villas surrounded by beautiful lawns. Yet, nature is only one of the many attractions in Piedmont. This region has many other facets: from Turin and the Italian car manufacturing capital and with its history and remarkable cultural heritage, to other cities such as Cherasco, Alba and Ivrea. Next we come to charming medieval castles, including the imposing castle of Ivrea, and prized works of architecture, for example the famous Residences of the Royal House of Savoy and the Sacri Monti (Sacred Mountains). The famous spa resorts of Acqui Terme and Vinadio offer treatments and therapy for a relaxing, reviving holiday. Discoveries and surprises of all kinds are in store for visitors to the region, including a wide range of food and wine for all tastes. The region's provinces are: Turin (regional capital), Alessandria, Asti, Biella, Cuneo, Novara, Verbano Cusio Ossola and Vercelli.
