Of this part of the coast of Trieste you hear about for several reasons. Wild place , which is rare in our country. Currently there is absolutely nothing that has to do with the idea of land use (something to make it a protected natural area, also recent reports in the local newspaper Il Piccolo : ' in early October was signed the agreement program between the local authority and the Region for the consolidation and environmental regeneration of the stretch of sea, for a total investment of nearly 1.7 million euro ... ' ) . Small pebble beaches alternate with predominantly rocky . There is no drinking water, nor any bathing service and the trails that descend from Strada Costiera are nothing short rough , scenic and beautiful karst between rocks and Mediterranean vegetation , but at the limit of viability . Plan accordingly if you have chosen this way of access. The alternatives are the boat or by the beach, but in the direction Sistiana , the path traditionally used to get up to the bay is closed because of the great work of revitalization of the whole area , an ambitious project that bears the name of Portopiccolo . Proceeding to Trieste by sea , before the Residence Europa , one encounters a huge wall of reinforced concrete sea without getting wet too overcome only when the tide is very low. There are other buildings of considerable size along the beach , abandoned a long time and in a state of neglect . It is said , but I do not have any documented evidence , that they are what remains of a colossal tem of slides that were meant to rolling huge boulders from the overlying quarries Aursina , down to the great piers which were used as mooring for boats. Other times , there was no road transport and even the Coast Road . The Barbary Coast is a beach ' unofficial ' nudist, frequented by naturists but also - is well known - many homosexuals.

Of Romanesque, Gothic and Renaissance architecture, the Basilica of Aquileia is the result of several reconstructions carried out over the centuries. Erected on a building of the fourth century, underwent several expansions. The present structure is basically consecrated by Patriarch Poppo in 1031 after the changes made by him: elevation of the perimeter walls, renovation of the capitals, apse fresco and construction of the bell tower, 73 meters high, which offers from the belfry, accessible by internal steps, a beautiful view of the lagoon from the Alpine foothills. The real jewel of the Basilica of Aquileia is the mosaic floor, the largest in Europe, dating to the first frame of the fourth century AD; rich in Christian symbolism represents the triumph of life over death. Next to the Basilica are the so-called church of the Gentiles and the baptistery. Of great importance is the Crypt of the Frescoes (XII century) and the Crypt of the excavations, it is important to know the history of Aquileia early Christian centuries and the so-called Holy Sepulchre, built in the twelfth century in imitation of that of Jerusalem.

The Castle is situated within the walls of the ancient town, what the medieval sources cite as higher ground, which took place in the administrative and judicial functions of the County. The manor changed its appearance several times during its long history: during the First World War it was partially destroyed and rebuilt in the Thirties, giving the building the pentagonal and the overall appearance that characterized the sixteenth century. The heart of the Castello dei Lanzi is the Court, in which the foundations are still evident of the high central tower which was demolished during the sixteenth century because they are too vulnerable to artillery fire. From here are visible the thirteenth-century Palace of the Counts and the Palace of the Provincial States dating back to the fifteenth century, while the XVI-XVII century is the so-called Palace Veneto linking the two main bodies. The Castle of Gorizia presents itself as a fascinating residence of princes: to the ground floor are the small dining room and kitchen furnished with tables and dressers complete with dishes late medieval period; at the ground floor of the charming environment of the Knights hall houses a fine collection of weapons in use in the County of Gorizia from the eleventh to the sixteenth century, supplemented by outside perfect (in 1 to 1 scale) replicas of war machines, as catapults and scorpions used for sieges in medieval times. This large room, which overlooks a lovely wooden walkway and retaining a spectacular coffered ceiling, annually hosts major exhibitions. Also on the first floor, the Music Room, which contains perfect reproductions of medieval instruments, enhanced by an interactive learning tem. FRIULI VENEZIA GIULIA

This region is situated in the north-east of Italy and borders Slovenia and Austria. Friuli Venezia Giulia overlooks the Adriatic Sea and is surrounded by high mountains, enclosing many different landscapes. The impressive Carso plateau is formed by windswept rocks, and soil erosion created a series of caves, hollows and 'resurgences'. The sceneries of the mountains are spectacular as well, in the Eastern Dolomines, the Carnia and the Julian Alps, among lakes, valleys and protected areas. From its boundary with Veneto up to Monfalcone, the coast is trimmed with lagoons and has long sandy beaches, with several tourist resorts like famous Lignano Sabbiadoro; from Monfalcone to Trieste the coast is rocky. The great variety of landscapes matches a rich and variegated cultural heritage that was determined by a complex history and by the confluence of different civilizations in this territory. For this reason, Friuli Venezia Giulia looks like a small universe with many different traditions: it is the 'land of contrasts'. The provinces of the region are: Trieste (regional capital), Gorizia, Pordenone, Udine.
