Concordia Sagittaria was an important center paleoveneto situated at the crossroads of the Via Annia and Via Postojna and in 42 BC became a Roman military colony by the name of Julia Concordia. The ancient Roman city keeps some parts of the walls and large urban structures: the forum, the theater, the baths and part of a three-arched bridge over which passed the Via Annia. The exodus of Venetians caused by the barbarian invasions, led to the transfer of the settlement in Caorle and Concordia was downgraded to simple fortress earning the nickname Arrowhead thanks to the installation of a factory arrows, sagittae. Only around the eleventh century Venetian town came to life as a fief and a diocese dependent on the Patriarch of Aquileia. The remains of the early Christian complex are the oldest evidence of the Christian faith in Veneto. Concordia Sagittaria provides a framework truly remarkable with regard to the history and art of the centuries IV and XI: fences burial, the Basilica Apostolorum enriched with mosaics, the Trichora Martyrum, trefoil building for the preservation of relics of the saints and the Baptistery whose interior is beautifully decorated with frescoes. To conclude this journey into the past can not miss a visit to the Archaeological Museum that houses finds from Roman and early Christian, while many materials found in the excavations are also on display at the National Museum Concordense of Portogruaro. To the historical and artistic beauty of this corner must be accompanied Venetian flavors of the area: the DOC wines like Cabernet, Pinot Noir and gray and Toi, the typical cheese Montasio and the other less well-known drunk, with refined must and marc and cured meats such as ossocolli cup, snouts (sausages) and figadei or sausage with liver.

At one time this area was crossed by the Via Annia, an important Roman road that connected Rome and Aquileia and there are many testimonies of Romanization from Bibione Pineta, in particular by the seaside villa of the Mutteron of the Friars. During the nine years of Napoleonic domination , between 1805 and 1814, the river was ideal layout to divide the Lordship of Latisana into two municipalities: to the left and right Latisana San Michele, which became an autonomous administrative entity annexed to the province of Venice. Italians are major events Also gone from San Michele: a track still visible in the Second World War the villa Ivancich torn apart by the bombing. Among the ruins of this abandoned mansion, now shrouded by creepers, we see the ancient glories of late 1500, when it was probably built by Longhena by the will of the Mocenigo, one of the most important Venetian families. Della Villa, which was once home to the writer and philosopher Ernest Hemingway Ezra Pound, few traces remain, and so many memories that are part of the story. The whole country, not just the villa, was devastated by bombing aimed at destroying the bridges over the river: the current San Michele is in fact the result of a reconstruction of the original settlement to the south, thanks to a new master plan architect Angelo Scattolin of Venice. These events testify to the strength of will of the City, who has found new vigor and has been able to capitalize on the tourist resources of Bibione to improve services and bathing facilities with an unwavering commitment today.

FRIULI VENEZIA GIULIA

This region is situated in the north-east of Italy and borders Slovenia and Austria. Friuli Venezia Giulia overlooks the Adriatic Sea and is surrounded by high mountains, enclosing many different landscapes. The impressive Carso plateau is formed by windswept rocks, and soil erosion created a series of caves, hollows and 'resurgences'. The sceneries of the mountains are spectacular as well, in the Eastern Dolomines, the Carnia and the Julian Alps, among lakes, valleys and protected areas. From its boundary with Veneto up to Monfalcone, the coast is trimmed with lagoons and has long sandy beaches, with several tourist resorts like famous Lignano Sabbiadoro; from Monfalcone to Trieste the coast is rocky. The great variety of landscapes matches a rich and variegated cultural heritage that was determined by a complex history and by the confluence of different civilizations in this territory. For this reason, Friuli Venezia Giulia looks like a small universe with many different traditions: it is the 'land of contrasts'. The provinces of the region are: Trieste (regional capital), Gorizia, Pordenone, Udine.
