Castel Coira (Churburg in German) is a medieval castle in Schluderns (BZ), which collects the largest European private armory. The construction began around 1260, on the initiative of the prince-bishop of Chur, Heinrch von Montfort. The core of the castle consisted of the tower, in the wall and into the palace. It was built to contain the expansion of the lords of Mazia (Matsch). The diocese of Chur succumbed to Meinhard, Duke of Carinthia, who gave the castle in 1297 precisely to Mazia. In 1504 the extinct Mazia took over the accounts Trapp. To them we owe the reconstruction of the palace and the chapel, but also the Renaissance frescoes (including two family trees) and the loggia. All the castle rooms are furnished with furniture and furnishings dating back to different eras of the manor, from a wooden Madonna dating back to 1270. In the hall of the ancestors, are collected portraits of all Trapp from 1600 to 1800. The hall armor is probably the best known. There are preserved about 50 suits of armor, as well as swords and other defensive weapons, all in excellent condition. This is the armor belonged to Matsch, the Trapp and the guards of the castle. The most important piece of armor is 2.10 meters high dating back to 1450. The heavy armor 46 pounds, is the work of the dealer Milan Missaglia and belonged to Ulrich Matsch.
