The village lies on a hill which, according to tradition, was the seat of the ancient Italian city of Uriah, also mentioned by Pliny and Strabo. It would be interesting to find out what this center links tied to those of Uriah the same name located in the eastern regions. We know that during the Middle Ages the city was surrounded by walls but today there are still many traces of that period. Over the centuries the center was a feud of some families of which remains a witness in the Baronial Palace, an ancient Norman fortress, restored several times over the years.
The houses and streets are positioned in such a way as to facilitate the flow of rainwater and sewage downstream, preventing the formation of unsightly puddles in the streets, as now made of pebbles and stones. Masses so the houses are lit throughout the day, painted white absorb less heat from the sun, and to deal with icy winds in winter, the houses are built next to each other protecting.
They still see the remains of ancient walls that protected the residential units gathered around the Baron's Palace, also called the House, which was the gateway of the city.
The foci of Capoiale and Varano opened in recent times, are two access routes to the sea and avoid stagnation of water which in the past was due to malaria. Base for submarines and seaplanes during the war, the lake is now one of the main resources of the country. The economy is based primarily on fishing and tourism is developing.

The Lake of Varano communicates with the sea through two passages (mouth to mouth Varano east and west of Capoiale), is ten kilometers long and wide half past seven and its depth is about twelve feet with peaks of five and a half meters and is the ideal place for fishing, both from shore and boat.
