The Tomb of the Leopards , Tarquinia is one of those which is discussed more frequently in the manuals of Etruscan art , as well as being beautiful , in fact, is the highest level of style. The cemetery in which it appears is a UNESCO World Heritage . This tomb is dated around 480 BC Artistically it is noted that it is still strongly linked to the archaic tradition , it can be seen from both the architectural construction is , in particular , the technique of painting : the images are two-dimensional and there is not even an attempt at chiaroscuro. The roof is gabled , with multicolored checkerboard pattern , while the central fascia presents patterns colorful circles. After all, in the pediment -looking trapezoidal continues the ancient tradition of the leopards that face : a metaphor for death. Below , the banquet scene is typical of a daily moment , there are , in fact , women, and Greece would not have been able to participate . All around you is a typical profusion of magnificent fabrics, represented by the local decorative syntax . On the left wall of the tomb there is a procession with musicians, and a person holding the cans , on the other hand, there are dance scenes . Mark the space of the main image , the three klinai , the beds on which they feast , and above each of these three pairs participating in the meal. It seems almost all fall within the Greek tradition of the triclinium , and instead there is a characteristic atypical : there are plants. In other words the banquet not takes place within , as happens in the depictions Greek , but outdoors. This connotation is recovered at the scene throughout his funerary purposes , if this is not a daily feast , homemade , it means celebrating a special occasion , and probably the one where the funeral took place and who was following the exposure of the deceased.

Centre for summer and winter holidays, the most important and best equipped of the area of Mount Amiata. Dell'Abbazia S. Savior, who for about a millennium had to radiate its power throughout the eastern Amiata area, only the church and the crypt. From history and legend, we learn that this monastery, Benedictine and Cistercian first, was born around 750 at the behest of the Lombard king Rachis, who used it initially to control the Via Francigena, which ran along the valley immediately below. Subsequently, the temporal power of this abbey, although very often clashing with Aldobrandeschis, the powerful nobles whose territories included the entire western side of Amiata, is great evidence in the history of Tuscany and in the relations between the Papacy and the Emperors. In this context, the historic environment, has a significant interest in the medieval town, which is preserved almost intact with narrow picturesque streets. Abbey S. Salvatore has experienced in the last two centuries the positive aspects (which were derived for the induced loss) and with negative (for the working conditions of the miners) an important mining development linked to the production of mercury, whose mines are all closed today . Completely closed the mine Abbey about twenty years ago, and with it also the other fields of the Amiata, remains today the testimony of a museum exhibition.

But Pitigliano is different ... and, despite not having the Momumento breathtaking that remains engraved in my mind, it's all the context that is almost magical enchanted. The origin of Pitigliano affected by this spell and is lost in the mists of time. Legend has it that it was founded by two young Petilio and Celiano. Petilio was the gens Petilia, an important Etruscan Roman family, while Celiano appartiena the Etruscan family of Celes Vibenna. Petilio Celiano and found nothing better than to steal the golden crown from the temple of Jupiter Stator in Rome and bring it right on the cliff of Pitigliano where, fascinated by the beauty of the place, we stayed and founded the city. We do not believe much in this legend Etruscan - Roman ... just because the origin of Pitigliano is certainly the oldest and perhaps before the Etruscan civilization itself. Today in Pitigliano is to stroll through the narrow streets, with many small craft shops, immersed in the colors of the tufa and the smell of wood-burning fireplaces ... and assure you that it is an endless pleasure, even if confined to only the historical center ... one above the tuff cliff. Beyond the walls, in the east, it is naturally extended Pitigliano new very modern, but without the charm of centuries. But what is the best time to visit Pitigliano. Surely from spring to fall, even though many of the pictures that we publish are done in the middle of winter. In particular we indicate the Torciata of St. Joseph, which takes place March 19

The lush beech forests, rocks with unusual shapes, rich and fresh springs, mines (now relegated to the museum) and a stunted mountain agriculture have given to those who live on the slopes of the mountain the proud consciousness of diversity. The cycles of history and art have variously concerned and lapped over the centuries, the Amiata. A large village, It may be a small out of the way place but it has two excellent restaurants and there is a gelateria where one can lick a delicious ice cream while watching the evening passeggiata. Or you can take it with you and visit the ancient Etruscan gateway to the town. Saturnia was in ancient times a large town of considerable importance. The porta is easily identifiable as Etruscan owing to its jigsaw pattern of irregular and vast stones so finely cut they have held together without mortar for well over two thousand years. Through this arch passed the 'new' Roman road, the Via Clodia which went from here to Rome: The basalt paving stones bear the grooves of the iron tyres of Roman and mediaeval vehicles. Devastated by malaria, Saturnia was almost abandoned until recently when the nearby spa began to revive its fortunes. Saturnia itself is a charming medieval village and the surrounding, unspoiled hills are filled with olive groves and woodlands and rich with Etruscan remains. It is about an hour and a half from Rome, an hour from Siena, and a half-hour to the sea. The area has at present gained a reputation for the high standard of its restaurants and trattorie. At the foot of the hill lies a hot (37C) water spa famous for its therapeutic qualities. Just outside from the medieval town walls the countryside spreads out: here you can take easy wonderfool walks through the perfumed Mediterranean bushes along the Albegna river. Longer walks might take you to Sovana, Sorano, Pitigliano. You may see the sea the distance, framed by the natural park of Mounts of the Uccellina and Monte Argentario. In most towns where there are natural hot springs, there is a modern spa where they bring the hot springs water into a swimming pool and you pay to use the pool. Some of these spas are outdoors and only open in summer; others are more medical type spas that are indoors and open all year. This is a waterfall with a difference - the water is hot, the temperature of a nice hot bath. It smells good and sulphurous but then you can see why the Romans believed the waters came from Hades.

Since ancient Etruscans inhabited the green Tuscany, scatters precious traces of their civilization , but some centers today were born only during the Fascist era , with the reclamation of wetlands and the upgrading of the Tyrrhenian coast. This is the case of Albinia , Orbetello small fraction of 3000 inhabitants in the province of Grosseto at the time of his birth was a simple rural hamlet comprising a handful of houses, a church center , a railway station and a grain silo, wanted by the Fascist regime in a degraded area before . The first name of the town was Albenga , but since it was too often confused with that of the nearby river, was soon changed to Albinia . A name that today is no longer think of agriculture and reclaimed lands , but in a popular seaside resort , one of the most famous and appreciated in this part of Tuscany . The greater development of the town dates back to the fifties of the twentieth century, when the center was born of peripheral Colonization Ente Maremma and became the center engine of the Land Reform . The surrounding countryside was transformed into a building site, were born the rural villages of Dusty and Marseilles , were built the houses, were extended lines of communication , and in 1957 was consecrated the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie , which is still visible in the center of possession. Visitors to Albinia today are enchanted above the Tyrrhenian Sea , clear and persuasive in calmer days , impetuous and sublime when arguing with the wind and slaps the rocks on the coast. Along the coast there are wide beaches of white sand , comfortable for families, children and lovers of pure relaxation, but also the taste wild coves , ideal for those who prefer unspoilt scenery . To enchant visitors there is the special music of the Mediterranean , with the whisper of the waves, the chirping of cicadas and the cries of the seagulls. The climate is typical of the Mediterranean area , summers are hot and sunny but pleasant , refreshed by a gentle breeze that blows constantly from the sea, and winters are mild and pleasant , never too cold. Suffice it to say that in the coldest month , January , average temperatures range from a minimum of 2 C to a maximum of 9 C, while in July and August , ranging from 17 C to 30 C. Rainfall is scarce in summer and focus especially in the fall, between October and December , with an average of 9 rain days per month. But the landscape around Albinia includes not only beaches and clear blue sea : the north end of the lagoon to the west there is the so-called ' Stagnetto Albinia ,' a natural environment that welcomes winter in many species of ducks, as shoveler and mallards, and some elegant marsh harrier , and year-round home to flamingos , spoonbills and glossy ibis . The salty wind that blows in these areas makes the reed dance in the air, and gives a unique magic to the coastal landscape .

Numerous archeological finds dating back to the Etruscan period that were brought to light in the areas of the Scansano and Albegna valleys, demonstrate that vine growing was an important element in the local Etruscan community. Earthenware jars containing Vitis vinifera seeds dating back to the fifth century BC and bronze statuettes of offerers holding sickle, the standard tools of vintners until almost the present day, are just some of the artifacts found in the rural area of the Usi, which includes the towns of Scansano and Semproniano, and the site of Ghiaccioforte, an area between Scansano and Saturnia. With the decline of the Roman Empire, Scansano, as well as the rest of the Maremma region, inevitably experienced a period of crisis and deterioration due to the loss of the population, which led to hydrogeological instability and the swamping of the coastal areas. Although wine production survived around the inhabited centers of earlier Etruscan settlements, the extensive production of the Roman settlements failed. The establishment of the so-called 'estatura' or summer migration at the time of Peter Leopold I of Lorraine (circa 1737), to escape the malaria infestation present along the coastal areas due to their enlarged swampland, and the arrival in Scansano of several wealthy families, summoned by the Grand Duke to invest in and enhance the area, brought new possibilities for the development of the Maremma region and especially for Scansano. The Morellino di Scansano wine originates in one of the most natural and uncontaminated areas of Tuscany: the southern coastal area of the region known as the Tuscan Maremma, located between the valleys of the Ombrone and Albegna Rivers, which includes the territory of the municipality of Scansano, as well as parts of the municipalities of Grosseto and Magliano in Toscana towards the Tyrrhenian Sea, and the municipalities of Campagnatico, Roccalbegna, Semproniano e Manciano in the direction of Monte Amiata and the interior of the region. The wine, locally known as 'Morellino', almost completely made from the Sangiovese grape variety, owes its particular properties to the soil and climate of the area: the vineyards benefit from the sea breezes that mitigate the high daytime temperatures of the summer. The newest plantings, those done in the last 10 years in the Morellino di Scansano production zone, were created with a goal in mind, to improve the quality of the grapes that go into making the wine by keeping yields per plant rather low. Producers created rows that were closer together, changing them from 2.5 x 0.80 meters to 2.00 x 0.80 meters, or sometimes 2.30x.60 meters, with the number of vines planted rising to between 5.000 - 7.000 plants per hectare. In the past, the lion's share of the vines were planted with ample space between rows around 3.00x1.50 meters or 3.00x1.00 meters and a density of only 2.000 - 3.000 plants per hectare. Morellino di Scansano became a Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita (DOCG) recognized wine starting with the 2007 harvest. The addition of the 'garantita' to the title which was bestowed on the Consortium in 1978, DOC, is the fruit of the labor of producers and growers over the last 30 years in order to reach an exceptional level of quality at every stage of wine production. In order to conform to traceability standards, the Consortium is now using the State seal instead of the one that was previously used by the Consortium starting in 2004. The use of the seal is a sign of protection for the consumer, be it the State Seal or the Consortium seal.

The 'Greetings were the priests involved in the reading and interpretation of the divine will through the flight of birds and other heavenly signs. This tomb, located in the necropolis of Monterozzi and discovered in 1878, is considered by scholars one of the most important monuments of Etruscan wall painting, and not only for the beauty and plasticity of those paintings but mainly because it is documented here what is considered a typical function of the Etruscan religion, that is, the interpretation of the will of the gods by reading the signs of nature. The decoration of the tomb is centered on the back wall where the sides of the gates of Hades, there are two bearded figures, the 'Wishes that appear in the attitude of farewell. At the center of the right wall there are two naked wrestlers, and Teitu Latithe. (Sixth century BC).

TOSCANA

Tuscany is located in central Italy and stretches from the Apennines to the Tyrrhenian Sea. Its landscape, artistic heritage and important cities, first of all Florence, make Tuscany an unquestioned protagonist of world tourism. In this region, nature has many different facets, starting from the coast that alternates long and sandy beaches, like the Versilia beach, with rocky cliffs and steep headlands. The islands of the Tuscan Archipelago, surrounded by Mediterranean vegetation, a crystal-clear sea and rich seabeds, are peerless. You can admire sceneries of uncontaminated nature in the Apuane Alps and in several protected areas, like Orbetello lagoon, which houses many species of migrant birds, including pink egrets. However, the most typical sceneries of the region are those that merge the beauty of nature with the millenary work of man. The amazing Gulf of Baratti and the sites of Vetulonia, Vulci and Pitigliano guard necropolis and vestiges of the Etruscan civilization, while Roselle and Cosa evoke memories of the Roman Age. Medieval villages, historical towns, castles and defence tems, rural churches (the so-called 'pievi') and beautiful abbeys, like the one of Sant'Antimo, are scattered all over the territory and their profiles stand out in the landscapes of the Crete Senesi, Orcia Valley, Garfagnana, Chianti and the Maremma. Finally, Tuscany is full of spas: Montecatini, Saturnia, Montepulciano, Monsummano and Bagno Vignoni, which offer relaxing holidays thanks to their thermal waters and well-equipped facilities for all types of treatment. The provinces of the region are: Florence (regional capital), Arezzo, Grosseto, Livorno, Lucca, Massa Carrara, Pisa, Pistoia, Prato and Siena.
