The village of Miglierina is not far from the highway 280 connecting the two seas Catanzaro Lamezia Terme, at the narrowest point of Calabria. Its small territory of just 13 square kilometers , rises in altitude up to 1,013 m of Monte Portella starting from 250 m of the river Amato . The first historical are uncertain and shrouded in popular legend , but it is assumed that the first settlement was built in the village Cusati , consisting of farmers from Scigliano and the Valley of the Savuto . The resort Cusati - place of foundation - soon proved unsuitable , so we found it necessary to shift the focus to the highest hillock , pleasant and flat, full of the best sand to build. From best rina in Miglierina is a short step , and it is in this step that you can find the etymological explanation of the name of the country . Miglierina fits in the saddle Marcellinara , a narrow gorge between two seas, the Tyrrhenian and the Ionian Sea, and is bordered by the towns of Amato, Marcellinara , Tirindrish . This geographical location enables , with a single glance , to embrace the panoramic view of the Gulf of Squillace, of St. Euphemia , and when the mist allows it, to spot the Aeolian islands with the unique crater of Stromboli . The territory miglierinese is enclosed by that of neighboring municipalities and it is curious to find that always the border with neighboring Amato, is marked by a bridge of ancient workmanship built on a spring, and then channeled into the Funtanella . Near the river Amato are the remains of the ancient water mills , which some studies bring back the origins of the name of the country Muglierina ( land of the mills ) , showing a German root of the name ( in German miller says muller ) . That mill is just one of the possible interpretations of the origin of the name of the country . In fact there are other versions , but they all start from the idea that the first appropriations were you located in the lower part , near the river, precisely at the location Cusati . This term, for some greek - Albanian origin , would indicate a localization of the Albanian population , as distinct from the original inhabitants. At the location Melina of the population would find fertile ground for processing and to build their homes , hence, the term best rina , referring perhaps to the different nature of the soil compared to that of neighboring Amato, composed mainly of clay. Others believe , however, that Miglierina resulting from the existence in the area, a great milestone, Milia post to mark the distance along the road that went from Ponte Corace Charon or milium that the sole of a mile.

Castle stylus or simply by Norman Castle is a Norman castle built in Stilo in Calabria by Roger II of Sicily on Mount Consoles eleventh century. The castle has a triangular towers except those around the fort which have a circular shape and are provided with loopholes. A tower is called Hauteville. The central area of the castle was a church-chapel with an altar and 4 main altar adjacent to the walls of the room. You enter the castle through a path from the place where there is a Catholic, another monument that is famous Stilo; and following the path that leads to the 14 Stations of the Cross, after which you can see the castle, of which the side walls are now visible, and along a short stretch you arrive at your destination. Towards the end, the path narrows and you walk in single file until you come to a fork, take the right path which gradually widens until you reach the open space in front of the main gate of the castle. Before you arrive you see on the right (towards the sea) the remains of several towers. It is said of Charles of Anjou which is cut off the hands and feet to hundreds of Stilo, imprisoned after the uprising of the village and taken up after an escape attempt. The rebels die in horrible dungeons of the castle bled: as far as we know, the only prison in the world it would be useless to lock because it was dug just below the walls, in a dizzying wall of five hundred feet above the opposite side to that of the village. It came and it went out, so, through a single opening only when it was hoisted or lowered from a rope. Or you jumped into the void to die smashed, but having put an end to torture. Very few came back alive from the prison of the castle. But among these was a noble matron named Regina, who was said in the village that he had for a magic hen of gold, and able to make every day a golden egg yet. The rogue governor Coast Peloga encircles the woman who wants to tear the secret, but she does not speak and the bully is beaten bloody placing her in the castle. The grandson of her Condomicita Coast, is to know and to Croton, where the court of Duke returns to Stylus sending respectfully rich gifts to the governor as if nothing had happened. But after thirteen accords with friends, invited to the sumptuous feast: when they get up from the table, the plot is already hatched. At dawn, the conspirators are presented to the governor's palace and the guards have just opened the door burst into the bedroom of him raising his daggers. With a leap, the hapless reaches the window and throws up an embankment trying to save himself by fleeing but is reached, bound and presented to the people from the hands of death after which he received the worst outrages. Costa Condomicita is elected governor, the matron will be released. And the record does not say anything about the miraculous hen to the little people harbored the golden eggs, but for someone that can read symbols perhaps hiding some other secret and even more valuable.

Stylus (Stilu in Calabria, Stylon in greek-Calabria) is an Italian town of 2,655 inhabitants in the province of Reggio Calabria, in Calabria, and ed in the circuit of The most beautiful villages in Italy. The origins of Stilo are related to the destruction during the greek by Dionysius of Syracuse City Kaulon. According to Apollinaris Agresta (Life of St. John Therestis, 1677), was built in less than 3 different places, including the first time in the promontory of Cocinto, now Punta Stilo, always in the middle ages in this area to the right of the river Assi and finally on the Mount Consoles. In the beginning it was a walled city, a Roman by the name of Magna Graecia Consilinum or greek Kosilinon. Stylus during the period of the Roman Empire was considered the low Kaulonia Italiot and subsequently changed its name to Stilida. The name comes from the Stilida Stilaro river, the shape of the promontory stretched and column of the temple of Jupiter Omorio. Given the Itinerarium Antonianum a train traveling just 400 steps from Locri. The battle took place between the Saracen ships Nasar and in 880 Byzantine ships, off the coast of Calabria. This town was then called Columns in greek Steilai. Stilida became part of the Byzantine Empire in the sixth century. Stilida was located near Punta Stilo to the right of the river Assi. On July 15, the 982 suffered damage as a result of a battle between Otto II and the Arab-Byzantine, won by the latter. It will be along the course of the Middle Ages that the inhabitants of the coast will live ever more inward, creating the medieval cores of the current countries of the Valley of the Stilo; as the inhabitants of Stilida that will move on Mount Consoles and only a third time where he is today Stilo. In the ninth century was built the Cattolica of Stilo. Between 1065 and 1071 Stylus resisting the Norman invasion. At the time it was called oppidum, ie fortified town with city walls. There were five gates: Porta Stefanina, Porta Terra, Port Royal, Port Scanza them Gutti and Port Cacari. With the Norman period Stylus becomes Royal Property unlike other cities like Cotrone, Catanzaro and Gerace owned by feudal lords. Retain this privilege until the fourteenth century when Charles V of Spain revoke the privileges.

Le Castella is a village of Isola di Capo Rizzuto, near Crotone. It is located on the Ionian coast of Calabria, 10 km from Isola di Capo Rizzuto, overlooking the bay with the ancient fortress of Aragon. It was chosen as a film set for the Armata Brancaleone and The Gospel According to Matthew. In 1999 it housed all the episodes of the 30th and final edition of the Games without frontiers. The story of Le Castella is long and follows more or less the same events surrounding territories. For his landscapes that aroused admiration among the ancient travelers, Le Castella was the subject of many legends and even, according to some scholars, the island of Calypso described by Homer in his Odyssey, would be placed right next to the village (in some maps geographical medieval, there is the presence of the name Calypso on one of the islands that were close to a few meters or kilometers from Le Castella). The crib was first founded as a Roman colony (but remains of Greek wall in the back of the fortress could deny it). Some legends tell of how Hannibal took refuge under some rocks of the cliff and escaped from there by the Romans during the time of the Punic Wars. During the Middle Ages we have little data in the country, instead we have some data in the late Middle Ages that show an economic prosperity and population growth (in the thirteenth century. The village was up over 2000 inhabitants); the remains of this ancient religious building are being monastic, of which there are some ruins, situated a little 'out of the country. In the fourteenth century. until the sixteenth century. followed the historical events of the kingdom of Naples, at times Le Castella was an active part in the outcome of governments. At Le Castella there was resistance to the rule of the Aragonese, from the inhabitants of the village who were loyal to the Angevins; after a long resistance, where almost the entire population barricaded himself inside the fortress, the Aragonese were the domain of the fortress and the village. From the sixteenth century. until the eighteenth century. the village and its fortress became scenarios of Turkish invasions. The Ottomans began to fire to the entire village, ing and kidnapping almost all the inhabitants. In 1536 the famous Barbary corsair Khayr al-Din Barbarossa kidnapped John Galen Dionysius, who became famous as an Admiral and privateer by the name of Ali Pasha Uluc. From the seventeenth century. until the early nineteenth century. the village of Le Castella was sparsely inhabited, for a short time residents lived in the fort and grew on the headland, the repopulation of the land took place very late in the second half of the eighteenth century.
