The history of the Cut is as old as that of the Osco-Samnite tombs discovered in the early '900. It was a vast agricultural area owned by the Lords Loffredo, principles of Cardiff, where there was a quarry tuff and lapilli pozzolan from which were obtained by cutting the stones used for the construction of houses. Since the beginning of '500, the Loffredo have used the Cut to extract stones tuff and lapilli pozzolan, they possessed a team of sed workers who were in the fixed service and the prince who had a house in the yard - up to a few decades ago was referred to as the place that is, the building of the Cut - owned by Prince and the grove that bordered the castle near the present Vico garden. In 1580, Prince Loffredo, for his will, he gave orders to build, just in front of his princely castle, that we can target in Piazza Garibaldi, a church dedicated to the cult of St. Blaise, patron of Cardiff, and the opportunity to put available to its age-old quarry to obtain materials needed for its construction. It is said that: several hundred men, every Sunday, starting from the Cut, which were obtained from the tufa stones for the construction of today Sanctuary of San Biagio, hand in hand transferred to the square as a sign of devotion. The land surrounding the quarry, were put under cultivation by farmers who sowed vegetables of all kinds, there was also the right of lava, an ancient jus that granted to farmers, the possibility of using the wastewater of 'era that reached the site from the Naples area high and which were carved up by them to irrigate their lands. In the same area, during the 700 - 800, when in Cardito was flourishing culture of silkworms, the Cut, where vegetating large mulberry trees, provided the so-called leaf for bugs and appropriating that was a crime punishable by law. After centuries of exploitation of its resources, the quarry was abandoned. The waters from Naples slowly came to fill it by turning it into a dead sea smelly and dangerous to health. Landowners and fittuari, loudly complained of the condition besetting the Cut and the threat that it could cause flooding on their farmland because of the water coming from the Neapolitan capital. In response, the City of Naples decided to buy the surrounding land and forbade the cultivation with the intent to be able to continue its sewage spilled into the Cut, but after a careful consideration of critical conditions besetting the 'whole area and after a big lawsuit, it ended up giving in, even after a disastrous flood in 1969. the whole area came under the protection of the City of Cardiff with the intention of the latter to reclaim and transform it into a large area of green public facilities, in a gathering where it would be possible to meet, make and attend sporting events, cultural and other, not only for the citizens of Cardiff, but for the entire area of the municipalities in the north of Naples . What we can enjoy today is history.

The island of Ischia thanks to its geo-morphological and climatic peculiarities represents a unique environment in the Mediterranean, a treasure chest full of treasure, a laboratory to live and understand the meaning of the concept of biodiversity. From a geological point of view it is a complex of various lifted and tilted plates, separated by fractures and faults that served often way out of the magma of the local catchment area, thus giving rise to a series of volcanic structures. One of the particularly important events in the geological history of the island that is represented by the eruption of the green tuff. About 55,000 years ago, they formed a giant magma chamber beneath the present-day island of Ischia. The ascent to the roads of the island is definitely an experience not to be missed for anyone visiting, or loves living the island of Ischia. There are many possible routes to get there. The proposed route, crossing the island from one side to the other, will relish the geological history - environmental and anthropological island. It starts from the stables of horses to Fiaiano (fraction of Barano d'Ischia) and you enter immediately into a chestnut. During spring (best time to experience this, because of the many blooms) the view is immediately kidnapped by the light color of the flowers of chestnut from Monte Toppo (427 m asl) to rise, golden brushstrokes seem typical of the deep green sea this side of the island and a sign of great floristic richness. Take the path that goes up to the valley of Buceto, where is the source of the same name, the first section is accompanied by the remains of the old aqueduct that captured the water from the fountain and took her to the village of Celsa (modern Ischia Ponte). Given the high exposure of this first section is the predominant vegetation typical of the Mediterranean, distinguished by the fragrant essences of myrtle enriched by the aromas of wild mint and thyme. After a while, as if by magic, the landscape changes: the particular location and geomorphology of the valley, as well as the abundance of water (the source of Buceto fact), the presence of tall poplars and ailaianti epifitati by creeping ivy and streamers that look like vines high and low ferns and broad-leaved bardane at least one meter, the chirping of birds, make this stretch like a tropical forest.

The park submerged by the Bay is a marine protected area located on the coast of the province of Naples to the north of the Gulf of Naples. Established in 2002 by a joint decree of the Minister for the Environment and Territory and the Heritage and Cultural Activities, the area represents, together with the underwater park of Gaiola, a unique example in the field of protection of Mediterranean archaeological and naturalistic underwater. The two protected areas, ed on the ground in the broader context of the Parco dei Campi Flegrei jurisdiction of the Region of Campania, aim precisely the protection and study of archaeological remains submerged in these areas in conjunction with the preservation of marine and coastal ecotems. The particularity of these areas is related to the phenomenon of volcanic bradyseism that has always interested the entire north coast of the province of Naples. This phenomenon has caused vertical movements of the area with excursions into positive and negative, causing many meters over the last 2000 years the sinking of the Roman coastline of about 6-8 meters. Around the first century B.C. In fact, the entire coastal area north of Naples was a flourishing resort, made fashionable by the presence of an imperial villa, the Pausilypon precisely that gave its name to the promontory of Posillipo, built by the wealthy freedman Publio Vedio Pollio. This man to his death in 15 BC, Augustus appointed heir of all his possessions, including Pausilypon. Later enlarged and embellished as imperial property, this place seems to have seen the tragic end of the conspiracy against the emperor Nero. Also on this coast are inundated remnants of the commercial ports of the Bay (Lacus Baianus) and the Portus Julius. Further north was the seat of the Port of Cape Misenum historical site of the Roman Imperial Fleet. The extraordinary value of these sites is given both by the remarkable state of preservation of the archaeological as well as historical and archaeological value from their objective. Mosaics are traces of frescoes, sculptures, road layouts and columns, are submerged in about 5 meters below sea level between anemones and starfish shoals of damselfish. Moreover, the presence of submerged ecotems valuable as the back to precoralligeno and communities of seagrass (Posidonia oceanica and Cymodocea nodosa essentially) make such environments places significant natural value and recognized as such by both the Italian national legislation, both from the Community. The place is highly suggestive, and makes this stretch of the seabed a small Roman Atlantis.

The Reserve Variconi is located on the left bank of the mouth of the Volturno River, a short distance from the center of the town of Castel Volturno, a marshy area is of high importance because it is positioned in the center of the Mediterranean. Being one of the last wetlands in Italy has been identified and protected by the Ramsar Convention *, and has become an ideal bridge to the African continent for thousands of birds, twice a year, moving into making spectacular mass migrations . The oasis includes a large brackish environment behind the dunes, has an area of about 194 hectares of which 60% is occupied by two small coastal ponds communicating with each other. The ponds do not have a direct and constant relationship with the sea, but there are channels that connect them over to each other, connecting them to the mouth of the Volturno. The waters are brackish, they derive in part from the infiltration of marine origin and in part by meteoric accretion. The oasis is also a SPA, a Special Protection Area, because of the large number of migratory birds passing through, there were observed by ornithologists, about 250 species of birds and many of them have chosen this place as their area of nesting. In 1978, the Province of Caserta will set up an oasis of fauna protection, while in 1993 the entire area became part of the Natural Reserve Mouth Volturno and Costa Licola of the Campania Region. Beginning in the late summer through the fall, migratory birds routes run through genetically controlled, which lead them in part to winter habitat in the Mediterranean and in part to cross the Sahara to arrive in wintering areas located in equatorial Africa . But already in the month of February and throughout the spring begins to return to the areas of unification. In wetlands Variconi focus is the species that spend the entire winter period, both species following the Tyrrhenian route during migration, both species have elected as their breeding range. Walking in the reserve is a unique experience, there is a nature trail with boardwalks and birdwatching hides for birdwatching. The course was built in 2004, but then the area was abandoned to weather and vandalism. Today, with the intervention of recovery and awareness of Ass.ne Sentinels non-profit organization, which has managed to involve organizations, and local associations, the huts have been completely renovated and re-routes are available for school visits and for all birdwatching enthusiasts.

Pallarito quarry marks the boundary between the borough of Barano and Serrara Fontana. A place of other times, wild and fascinating, because it has not been overturned by the hand of man. In the course of centuries only nature has transformed the site into a spell of purity and authenticity. The tall live oaks seem to touch the sky and clouds, an abundance of oak and ash. That gorge carved by wind and water erosion is dominated by two high ridges, one of which in ancient times was dug a cellaio that farmers used to put the barrels of wine and the tools of the earth. Going up a steep and long staircase there are caves and ravines that at the time you served as a shelter for goats, mules and men. This small kingdom was bequeathed to Salvatore Di Meglio, who makes a bricklayer, who is proud and proud to have achieved his dream: to transform those environments in a house museum. For more than fifteen years has been his home, there were born three sons, now adults. Although fond of that little paradise, he had to leave because it was too wet and cold during the winter. For a long time everything was in a state of disrepair. Only doves, hawks and other birds flew undisturbed around what could be called a small hive. But about seven years is new life in that desolate quarry, which for us locals and tourists was only a place of transit. Salvatore with his clear blue eyes and peering deeply into the museum spends many hours of the day. Welcomes the visitor with naturalness and simplicity, speak little and listen a lot. In his spare time carves wood and stone implements so little masterpieces, which affect because they are very primitive in form, seem to belong to a remote world, which we have lost track. The cellar is full of many tools that belonged to the rural civilization, small and large objects that are made everyday and we would not be able to admire and even to excite touching, if not the Savior had given them available to all those who miss the past and our roots. But not only that, this is also important for the new generations, who must learn that history is made not only of the deeds of men, but also objects which have used it.

The Aragonese Castle is a fortress which stands on an island tidal rock trachytic place on the eastern side of the island of Ischia, connected by a stone bridge 220 m along the ancient Borgo of Celsa, now known as Ischia Ponte . The islet on which was built the castle comes from Synaptic eruption occurred 300,000 years ago. It reaches a height of 113 meters above sea level and covers an area of about 56 000 m. Geologically it is a bubble of magma that was consolidated during eruptions and is called dome of stagnation. The castle is accessed through a tunnel, dug in the rock and wanted to about the middle of the fifteenth century by Alfonso V of Aragon. Before that access was possible only by sea via a staircase located on the north side of the islet. The tunnel is 400 meters long and the path is illuminated by high skylights that time also acted as piombatoi through which ped hot oil, stones and other materials on any enemies. The next stretch is a trail that winds uphill outdoors and leads up to the top of the island. From this road branching paths that lead children to various buildings and gardens. Since the seventies of the twentieth century is also running an elevator, whose path is carved into the rock and that reaches 60 meters above sea level. You must to Aragonese the modern appearance of the castle: a solid quadrangular, with walls equipped with four towers. Starting from the old male Angevin, in 1441 Alfonso V of Aragon gave birth to a structure restating that of Angevin of Naples. The king built a wooden bridge that connected the island to the main island (which was subsequently replaced by a stone), but until the middle of the fifteenth century the only means of access to the castle consisted of an external staircase of which you can still see some ruins from the sea, from the side which gives the island of Vivara. They were also built massive walls and fortifications (like the so-called piombatoi, ie cracks which were thrown boiling water, molten lead, stones and bullets on the possible invader) in which almost all the people of Ischia found refuge and protection during the raids pirates. Inside the building were placed housing real and those reserved to the courtiers, the troops and servants. At the foot of the castle was instead placed a bunker, used as a district officer of the garrison to the maneuvers of the drawbridge. The heyday of the structure occurred at the end of the sixteenth century, at the time the castle was home to 1892 families, the convent of the Poor Clares, the abbey of Basilian monks of Greece, the bishop with the chapter and the seminar, the prince with the garrison. There were 13 churches, including the cathedral, where December 27, 1509 was celebrated the marriage of Fernando d'Avalos, Marquis of Pescara and commander of the imperial troops of Charles V, and the poet Vittoria Colonna. The living room in the castle of Vittoria Colonna, from 1501 to 1536, coincided with a moment culturally very happy for the whole island: the poet was in fact surrounded by the finest artists and writers of the century, including Michelangelo Buonarroti, Ludovico Ariosto, Jacopo Sannazaro, Giovanni Pontano, Bernardo Tasso, Annibale Caro Aretino and many others.

Sorrento was originally crossed by three valleys are joined together in Roman times; in addition to the so-called Valley of the Mills, who represented the core of this tem, there was also a valley which ended at Marina Grande and another, planted with citrus trees, it is forwarded to the inside, on the hills of the city: the latter two valleys are partly missing, filled up, to make way for roads and buildings. Il Vallone dei Mulini was originated about thirty-five thousand years ago, when a violent eruption of Campi Flegrei, covered the area between Punta Scutolo at Capo di Sorrento debris: the spring water that formed from the low-flow streams, called Casarlano and Sant 'Antonino, who meet just before the start of the valley, dug a deep and narrow gorge, looking for an outlet to the sea. In the sixteenth century the area was owned by the family rate, while later came under the control of the Correale: it was one of the members of this family, Onofrio, in the seventeenth century, built at the mouth of the valley, a harbor, in what is the current Marina Piccola, but that was once called Deer Head or Head of Ceres, the presence of an ancient Roman temple dedicated to Ceres and then destroyed by two landslides in 1580 and 1604 in the following years, the bottom of the valley, was built a mill, which, by exploiting the waters of the river, it was used to grind wheat to sell then to Sorrento, a sawmill, which was cherry wood, olive and walnut, then used the artisans of the area, which were obtained by handicraft, and a public laundry: this industrial complex ruins are still visible; the ridges of the valley were also probably used as quarries of tuff to find blocks for the construction of buildings in Sorrento and caves formed as wells were converted to water harvesting. Il Vallone dei Mulini, despite being a long-popular life, however, was subject, at this time, and reproductions of paintings by artists both Italians and foreigners, these sources constitute the only evidence of the area. Sorrento was joined to the rest of the coast by a narrow bridge that exceeded the valley: in 1866 it was decided to remove the bridge and replace it with a square, getting the space needed for its realization, filling part of the throat, obtaining even some locals; so it was that the Vallone dei Mulini found himself divided in two: on the one hand, the outlet to the sea, occupied then by road to the port, the other small industrial complex that ceased to operate in the early twentieth century, both for the lack of water, channeled, both for reasons of climate, as the total absence of wind and high humidity, which constantly hovers around 80%, due to the artificial barrier, made it impossible for any form of human life. However, this has benefited the proliferation of numerous plants, some considered rare or almost completely disappeared, as the Phillitis Vulgaris, as well as various forms of carnivorous plants and bushes capers.

Among the most suggestive hypothesis is that the name derives from the greek Procida prochetai that is lying, because if you look closely at the morphology of the island you'll find that it seems to lie lying and lying in the sea. Others derive the name from that of a nurse of Aeneas called Procida, that he was buried there. The earliest records date back about Procida, according to testimony more reliable, the eighth century BC when, from the island of Euboea, Chalcis settlers arrived there with their cultural background in the arts and culture. Immediately after the Greeks were to reach the island, leaving clear evidence of their presence is found in the tombs sloping roof on the territory, which in denominations such as topographic and Callia Corricella, which still represent two urban architectural beauty.

Sorrento lemon is a fruit or vegetable in Italian Protected Geographical Indication. This fruit is a lemon femminello, and differs from the lemons of the nearby Amalfi coast for the different methods of cultivation and different organoleptic properties (the Amalfi lemon also belongs to a different category, sfusato). Is grown on the Sorrento peninsula, in particular in the municipalities Sorrento, Meta, Piano di Sorrento, Sorrento, Sorrento, Vico Equense, as well as the island of Capri, with the two common Capri and Anacapri. The femminiello Sorrento, also called lemon Oval of Sorrento (in reference to the oval shape of the fruit) and lemon of Massa (in reference to another town in the peninsula where it is grown), has medium-large (each lemon does not weigh less than 85 grams), a flesh-colored yellow with a highly acidic juice (which differentiates it from moderately acid Amalfi lemon juice) and is rich in vitamin C. the skin is of medium thickness and is very fragrant for rich presence in essential oils, and is yellow citrine. The Sorrento Lemon IGP presents particular techniques of production, based on the cultivation of plants under the pagliarelle, or straw mats resting on the support poles of wood to cover the tops of the trees, in order to protect the trees from the cold and wind and to delay maturation (this is also typical of the production recognized as IGP). In limonicoltura of the Campania region, the Sorrento (which also includes the island of Capri) is greater, even than the coast, constituting 35% of the area planted and 40% of the product, or about 600 hectares and 130,000 tons (about 327,000 of the entire region). As in the Coast, the Sorrento lemon are often called lemon gardens.

The Castel dell'Ovo (castrum Ovi, in Latin), is the oldest castle in the city of Naples and is one of the elements that stand out most in the famous view of the gulf. It is located between the districts of St. Ferdinand and Chiaia, opposite the area of Mergellina. Because of different events which partially destroyed the original appearance thanks to Norman and subsequent reconstruction work that took place during the Angevin and Aragonese, the architectural line of the castle changed drastically until you get to the state where it is today. Its name comes from an ancient legend that the Roman poet Virgil - that in the Middle Ages was considered a magician - hid in the secret building an egg that kept standing the whole fortress. His break would cause not only the collapse of the castle, but also a series of devastating disasters to the city of Naples. During the fourteenth century, in the time of Joan I, the castle suffered extensive damage due to the partial collapse of the arch on which it is placed and to prevent the general public from spreading panic about allegations future disasters that have hit the city , the queen had sworn he replaced the egg. The castle stands on the islet of tufa Megaride (greek: Megaris), natural offshoot of Mount Echia, which was joined to the mainland by a narrow isthmus of rock. This is the place where it was founded in the eighth century BC Partenope, hands Cumana. During the sixth century BC, the plateau below arose the new residential area (Neapolis). The oldest part of the city was called Palepolis (old town) and fell into disuse in the IV-III century BC.

The Blue Grotto is a natural cavity length of about 60 meters wide and about 25. Admission is two meters wide and a height of only one. To visit climb aboard small rowing boats that can hold a maximum of 4 people. The sailor will ask you to lie down on the bottom of the boat and enter the cave obtaining the momentum with a chain attached to the rock. The blue color of the cave is given by the sunlight that enters through an underwater window that opens just below the entry gateway, thus undergoing a filtration by water, which absorbs red and let the blue . A second phenomenon determines the silvery reflections of the objects immersed: the air bubbles which adhere to the outer surface of objects, having a refractive index different from that of the water, allow the light to exit. In Roman times, in the time of Tiberius, the cave was used as a sea nymph: the statues found in its interior are now stored at the Red House in Anacapri. For many years the Blue Grotto was never visited and, indeed, it was feared by sailors because the local folk legends described it as a place haunted by the spirits and demons. One day in 1826, however, the local fisherman Angelo Ferraro accompanied the German writer and painter August Kopisch Ernst Fries in visit. The two told of the wonder of the Blue Cave, and since then became stage sets for each trip to Capri

CAMPANIA

Campania is one of the regions in Southern Italy and stretches along the Tyrrhenian Sea, from the mouth of the Garigliano River to the Gulf of Policastro. The mildness of the climate, the beauty of the coasts, the richness of its art and history and the love for food make Campania an enjoyable land. The journey starts from the sea, uncontested king of the region, with its intense colours, its coasts rich in bays, coves and rock faces, as well as the islands of Capri and Ischia, true natural masterpieces with even more charm by the flourishing Mediterranean vegetation, interrupted by some small yet pretty towns where to spend your holidays, amid the history and traditions of Campania. How can we forget the monument of nature that dominates this region: the Vesuvius, dark and mysterious, loved for its beauty and feared for its power. Then Naples, famous worldwide for the intensity and passion of its music, that just like the town, mingles cultural and popular, sacred and profane, joyful and melancholic aspects. And Sorrento, a town that lays on a terrace of tuff falling sheer to the sea. In this view of paradise, indented and inaccessible coasts alternate to small and hidden beaches, creating a unique scenery. Here, the work of man was grand. The roughest areas are now made up of a series of terraces sloping down to the sea, used for the cultivation of citrus, olive trees and vines. These gardens give off heady scents of oranges, lemons and orange-blossoms. Music, sea, entertainment and nature, but also history and culture. Visiting places like Paestum, Ercolano, Pompei, the Chartreuse of Padula or the Royal Palace of Caserta is an unforget experience. The provinces of Campania are: Naples (region capital), Caserta, Benevento, Avellino and Salerno.
